Will the Banks ever have more compassion for Business Owners?

After today’s extraordinary government bailout of three large UK banks I had to wonder if any of the people they all employ to deal with their business customers will have any greater compassion next time we need some help?

I’ve had times when banks have just not been willing to lend me any support even though the long term ROI was very strong and it was just short term cash flow issues.

Sound familiar?

Perhaps now WE all own a piece of them we could force them to have a little more heart and to actually be humble enough to admit that they don’t always know best as the last few weeks events prove on so many levels!!!

Last Thursday evening I had the pleasure of attending the Security Industry annual garla awards dinner in London. It was a smart affair and my client, Chris Lewis Fire and Security was nominated in 4 categories:

1.  Large Security Installer of the Year

2.  IT Initiative of the Year

3.  Security Training Initiative of the Year

4.  Customer Care Initiative of the Year

They were the only company to be nominated in 4 categories which makes them serious winners in my eyes. Sadly this was not our year and we had to drown our sorrow late into the night. (no there are not any pictures I will share thank you)

I know that next year we’ll be back to pick up the award we so rightly deserved.

Well done to everybody across all three offices who all played a part in us getting nominated this year.

Powering VW's Marketing to the next level

Last week was very exciting for me on a number of levels.

One of the highlights was getting to work with Andy and his team at the VW Group Services Paint and Repair division.

I had the opportunity to address over 100 of their top franchise and independently approved body repair businesses. My brief was to deliver an external point of view on a subject I’m very passionate about…..marketing. My chosen title for this keynote was:

Turbo Marketing – How to drive new customers and sales into your business

Above is a picture of me with the Winning Audi 24 hour Le Mans car which you may not know was their first ever diesel car to win this race.

The great news was that VW recorded this event in audio and video formats and have agreed to release it. So watch this space as the DVD of Turbo Marketing will be out soon, make sure you join my news letter to receive the launch offers in a month or two.

I was very pleased with the positive feedback I received which included this e-mail from one of VW’s partners who trains their apprentices.

How to Build Your Recession Beating Mind Set

The worst thing any business can do right now is to adopt the wait and see attitude, or worse still, decide to do nothing at all!
With the right mind set backed by solid strategies to help you, you can and will move your business forward despite the negative press on overdrive right now.

 

Take a look around and you will see some business owners are focusing on what they could lose and how best to survive the economic crisis, whilst other business owners are thriving in the uncertainty and turning it into profitable opportunities.

 

So what is it that makes the difference in their mind set and how can you develop this key skill to ensure your bank account grows whatever the markets are doing?

First you have to take ownership for what you are focusing on and just how much negative news you let into your life. I agree as business people you need to be informed in order to adapt your businesses to change, but do you really have to be inundated by sensationalized news?

Here are my top 7 tips for building a winning mind set:

1.       Insulate yourself from negative people and bad news as much as possible.

2.       Start to get around more positive people, networking groups are a great way to meet positive people.

3.       Look for the opportunities out of today’s situations and capitalise on them.

4.       Read more business books to learn skills to increase sales and profits etc.

5.       Book onto a personal development course to build mental muscle.

6.       If you can’t personally influence it – don’t worry about it, focus on the areas of your business and life you can impact and recognise when good results happen.

7.       Hire a coach who can keep you on track and focused on positive actions.

So keep your focus on what you want to see and the results you desire.

Missing in September...?

As you can see from this date I've been gone from here for over 4 weeks!

Why? Well on two fronts...

Firstly I was away with my family, Sue and JJ for 2 weeks in Turkey taking a well earned rest during which I did not turn on my laptop once! I did however teach JJ to swim and I'll post some of my favorite photos here later on.

Secondly when I did get back the world had decided to go into a "financial melt down" so I was right in at the coal face with clients redefining their strategies to not only survive but to thrive in these more than interesting times.

There is just so much happening right now that I'll start posting more about where I've been in more detail over the next few days.

It's great to be back though!
