Wants out sell Needs as Apple prove against Microsoft

If you've ready some of my previous postings you'll remember that I am always going on about how you need to turn your product or service into something people want - especially in a recession.

Why?

Simple.....people always find the money for things they want. Last week we had a great example of this when on the same day Microsoft announced 5,000 job losses for the first time in it's history while Apple, with it's range of Ipods and Designers MAC's posted record profits.

There is a major lesson here for business owners and it's to always be investing in your product and service and to tap into the emotions of your customers. After all I now have 3 Ipods in my home, everyone slightly different and I am looking at a new color one for the office. As far as I am concerned it's the only MP3 player there is .....and I never look at the competition because Apple own that space in my mind and my heart....and frequently that space in my wallet!

Happy Birthday JJ - 3 days of parties and he's only just turned 3!!

The last 3 days have been spent enjoying real "fun time" with my son Jonathan James or JJ as he is more widely known. First we had the friends on Saturday, that left Sue shattered and the house looking more like a war zone. Then on Sunday we had all the family over for a more low key but big present party, and finally today he got a party thrown for him at Nursery!

My only worry is that he'll now expect this level of celebration every year - and why not after all life if is to be fully celebrated and nobody does that better than children who just find fun in everything they do.

£16,650 per hour! What's your time worth as the business owner?

We often hear about the minimum wage that our team members get paid but have you ever sat down and worked out what your own time is worth NOW Vs what it could be worth if you got out of all the small "stuff" that keeps you distracted from the major opportunities in your business?

Look at how much you took out from the business last year and divide by the average number of hours you work a week x 48 (we'll imagine you had 4 weeks holiday).

Warning! This number may be so low that it may shock some of you so have a soft seat ready to land on.

One of my clients recently escaped for 16 hours from the day to day operations in his business and managed to implement a new strategy generating thousands of pounds in instant cash flow and over £300,000 in additional net profits over the next 3 years = £16,650 per hour!

So my question to you is 'What's the excuse you keep using for not hiring somebody in your business to delegate more to so you have time to work "on" Vs "In" the business all the time?'

Hey, but if you just keep doing what you've always done....... you'll just keep getting what you've always had.

3 New members Join the Oxford Wealth Club

We held the second meeting of the Oxford Wealth Club this week and the members were really fired up as I set them a challenge - Double Your Business in 2009!

Now in the current climate you might think that just surviving is more than challenging enough - I disagree. With the right focus and strategies you CAN prosper in this new economy and we have members posting results that prove it.

So it was even more exciting for me that we have 3 new amazing members who joined us this month. They are all committed to both personal and business growth.

I tell you what - after we had finished the 2 hour 90 Day Planning session held after the regular meeting I left more fired up than I have felt for weeks - it felt good to be back!

Happy New Year (just) it's good to be back

Well I have been gone for nearly 4 weeks due to a combination of "man flu", a very nasty chest infection and the Xmas holiday sign off - but I am very well rested now and what better way to come back to kick off the 2009 year than with a Wealth Club meeting this morning.

Members battled the freezing temperatures and ice to attend and as usual the atmosphere was positive with everybody excited to get into the opportunities that this upside down economy is providing. We had two excellent member presentations from Neil Green - Westhill Direct, and Heather Saulter sharing more about her role as a "transformation coach" and healer.

What was interesting for me was that both these presentations stimulated many ideas and strategies that I shared with everybody but I've never captured just how many topics we cover in one meeting. Well....thankfully one member did this morning and here is what she said:

"The snippets from this morning included focus on triple 000 rather than single 0 opportunities, the doubling your business challenge, the illustration of the gym client and seeing a different route to capture a different market, the goal of the presenter is to connect with his audience,  the comment of team photos increasing certainty, the more you disclose, the more you are able to include clients into your world... these are all gems, treasures that you give and why I enjoy attending this amazing club.  Peronel Barns of The Project Managers".

I have been using my down time to read and get into the creation of my new book - more on that in the next few posts. I just wanted to say a personal "thank you" for all the messages of support and friendship I have been sent over the last month. They have all had a powerful impact and helped me through what has been a very chellenging few weeks personally.

Now back to business and the year ahead. My question to you is this:

Q - "How do you define Success in the current climate for you during 2009?"

Remember that the only person we ever compete with is ourselves, so it's our measure that counts most.
